EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - POLICE OFFICER

The Town of Townsend Massachusetts is seeking an experienced police officer to join the department.

Townsend is a rural community located in central Massachusetts, along the border of New Hampshire.   With approximately 9,000 community members Townsend is home to the newly built North Middlesex Regional High School, an elementary school, a middle school, and has community soccer and little league fields. With much open space, Townsend offers many hiking trails, a rail trail is planned, and there is a state park. Many community events, festivals, canoe races, band concerts, and community dinners are held in the town throughout the year.

Recently the department hired two experienced individuals as the chief and deputy chief. The vision is to develop a department that is community oriented and focused on providing services in a fair and impartial manner. The administration will be implementing recommendations from the 21st Century Police Report.

Preference is for a certified officer (out of state officers must be able to obtain their certification waiver within six months of hire date), with a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED, bachelor’s degree preferred.  Experience working with schools, youth serving organizations, and community groups is a plus.

Townsend offers paid training, 11 paid holidays, accrued sick leave, bereavement leave, and a yearly clothing allowance of $1,200.00 (during the first year of employment an additional $500.00 is granted).  Officers work a 4 and 2 work schedule and there is a shift differential for second and third shifts and a longevity stipend.

The salary for this position is $44,803 to $55,494 depending on qualifications and years of experience. Educational incentives are available for qualifying applicants.
