Cemetery & Parks Meeting
August 16, 2022

The meeting was opened at 12:03PM present were Tubby Boucher, Brian Sanford’ John Barrett, Roger Rapoza, and Pam Haman.
Minutes from the meetings of 5/31/22, 6/21/22, 7/12/22 and 7/26/22 were reviewed, corrections made. John made a motion to approve the minutes all were in favor motion carried.
Bills and payrolls were reviewed and approved.
Deeds none
Correspondence: none.
Discuss:
Green Burials, discussion about M.G.L. Chap 12 Section 85 regarding the laws about death certificates and who can actually fill them out. The Department needs to pick some dates and times to visit the Cemetery in Barre, MA where they do allow green burials.
Granite posts at flag pole, the posts are not lined up. By straightening the post and reducing the area slightly more lots could be gained for cremation burials. John was concerned that reducing the area might affect ceremonies such a Memorial Day. Commissioners will look at area to review the space.
Superintendents Report:
There have been numerous burials and sales of lots over the summer.
General clean up. Mowing the areas, the department took over this summer (West Townsend Fire Station and old fire station Police Station and Library/Sr. Center). Not a good season to judge how this is working because of the drought. Crew has been getting approx. 20 hrs per week. David Baldwin and Jared Morico are getting the most as the others have parttime jobs and not available all the time.
The rail trail group is responsible for maintaining the trail. Cemetery & Parks have not been asked to do any maintenance. Another grant has been received to allow the trail to expand.
Unforeseen/other items: Water pressure may be too high in areas of Hillside where new lines were put in. Roger will check with the Water Dept about a control valve. Some of the trails in Howard Park could be opened a little more.
